Guangzhou Update

Today we went to a local Chinese shopping area where there were local artists making ceramics, paintings inside bottles, paintings with fingers and many other things. We were able to get several things to give to Maddux as he gets older.

Tonight we tried to find McDonalds but after about 3 miles of walking decided to head back to the hotel since it was getting dark. We ended up eating at Subway and decided to be brave and have lettuce and tomato on our sandwiches. Several other families we have met this week have eaten there and eaten the raw vegetables and not gotten sick - so fingers crossed! Maddux at his first chicken sandwich at Subway, we are not sure if he ever had a sandwich before, he wasn't sure how to eat it, but figured it out and ate half of it.

Tomorrow we are going on a walking tour of Guangzhou to see the traditional Chinese medicine shops, I think a pet shop and the pearl markets. We also have to stop back at the medical office to get the results of the TB test (clearly negative since Maddux has had no reaction). Both our US Consulate appointment and oath taking ceremony are scheduled for Monday morning. We will be leave Guangzhou next Wednesday and spending 2 nights in Hong Kong instead of 1 night - no change in flights, still will be home a week from tomorrow (Friday) night!!

Should get lots of pictures tomorrow to post from our walking tour.

  1. Hi Jen - so glad to hear things are going well! I thought about you the other day when I saw a story on the news about KFC restaurants in China. Apparently they are very popular. Love the photos and travel updates :) Laura
